Yet, nothing can prepare you for the incredible journey you’re about to embark on, which will show you a whole new side of Peru. Your guide will take you through bustling plazas and local markets, all the way to sweeping valleys and ancient Incan ruins. With Machu Picchu being only one of the wonders on this trip, you can expect to see a multitude of national treasures and welcome surprises.

As you trek through tropical forests and archaeological sites, your camera roll won’t just be defined by stunning scenes, but lifelong friends.

Day 1: Welcome to Lima

Meals included: dinner

Accommodation: El Tambo II Hotel 3* (standard room) or similar

Welcome to Lima. On your first day here, you’ll be met at the airport, before being whisked away to the hotel for a welcome briefing at 2:00 pm. Meet your guide and fellow group members here you begin your orientation walk. Together, you’ll discover Lima’s enchanting historical center, which harks back to a colorful colonial past. Along the way, you’ll catch sight of treasured monuments like the Viceroyalty of Peru and the Cathedral. Marvel at the vibrant offerings of the Central Market and China Town as you head back to the hotel.

At 7:00 pm, explore the vintage delights of the bohemian Barranco District, where you can indulge in local flavors and the company of smiling city-dwellers. Dine on Peruvian delicacies in a local restaurant for dinner, and spend the night soaking in the atmosphere with your fellow travelers.

Day 2: Lima to Cusco

Meals included: Breakfast

Accommodation: San Agustin Internacional Hotel 3* (standard room) or similar

After flying into the iconic Incan capital of Cusco, you’ll spend the morning relaxing among the sandy stone buildings, which sit at an altitude of 3399 meters. Once you’ve acclimatised to the altitude, head out with your guide and group on a tour around Cusco, which takes you to magical attractions like the Inca Roca Palace, and the San Pedro Market in the Plaza de Armas. Make sure to sample local delicacies like chocolates, herbal medicines and mystery soup. As you follow your guide through the winding alleys, see how the Inca influences and colonial charm intertwine.

At 6:00 pm, enjoy a guided Pisco tour through the small but stunning San Blas plaza, where you’ll learn all about the Peruvian history of the Pisco Sour from your guide. Armed with tips on the distillation process, you can try making your own. Remember to say “salud!” as you drink up and enjoy the sweeping city views.

Day 3: Cusco / Sacred Valley of the Incas / Ollantaytambo

Meals included: Tunupa Lodge Hotel 3* (superior room) or similar

Accommodation: Breakfast and Lunch

After indulging in breakfast, you will travel by private car to the Sacred Valley, which takes around 2 hours. This plush, green valley is known as Wilcamayo to the Incas, and is dotted with golden maize crops that will light up any photograph. In the valley, you’ll visit a local community to learn about their lives. You might even get a chance to practice your Quechua language skills at the market, before delving into a heart-warming local lunch.

Your next stop will be the town of Ollantaytambo, which lies along the Urubamba River. Your guide will stop at a traditional brewery halfway, so you can sample a cooling cusqueña beer. Built over an ancient Inca town, Ollantaytambo’s ruins give you a glimpse into a distant past. Please note that tickets to the Ollantatambo ruins are not included in the trip, but they can be bought at the entrance.

Day 4: Ollantaytambo / Inca Trail Trek / Aguas Calientes

Meals included: Breakfast & Box Lunch

Accommodation: Inti Punku Machu Picchu Hotel 3* (standard room) or similar

Today, you’ll pull on your hiking boots to follow your guide along iconic Inca Trail Trek. After boarding the train to Km 104, your group will embark on a high-altitude route past the Chachabamba archaeological complex (2150m) and Wiñaywayna (2650m), which will take you a few hours. As you climb higher, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the Urubamba River Valley, the Choquesuysuy archaeological complex, and a toppling waterfall.

Push yourself through highland jungle for the final hour until you reach Inti Punku, otherwise known as The Sun Gate. From this rocky spot, you can take in the sun-drenched views of Machu Picchu and the beaming faces of your fellow travellers, before descending to the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu / Cusco

Location: Machu Picchu

Continue your Machu Picchu tour today with a trip to the ruins, which are famed for being an impressive urban creation. Your guide will show you the wonders of the Lost City of the Incas, such as the Sun Temple and The Intiwatana solar clock. As you stand to explore this unique setting together, take in the tropical mountain forest views from 2430m above sea level, and capture its beauty on camera.

After the tour, take a short bus ride back to town, and then travel on the tourist train Ollantaytambo. From here, relax in your private transfer back to Cusco.

Day 6: Cusco to Lima

Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

Accommodation: El Tambo II Hotel 3* (standard room) or similar

Wake up bright and early to escape to the nearby mountains on a bike tour. You’ll ride in a private vehicle to the Yuncapata area, where your guided tour will begin. This tour lasts for four hours, taking you off the beaten track through stunning scenery, farming lands and Inca archaeological heritage sites. Along the way, you’ll see the formidable Sacsayhuaman fortress, which dates back to Period of the Inca Pachacutec. Then, you’ll bike back to Cusco together to board your afternoon flight to Lima.

Once you are all settled in your Miraflores hotel, you and your new friends will enjoy a farewell meal at Mangos Restaurant. As you look out over the Pacific Ocean, look back on the trip together and say your goodbyes.

Day 7: Lima & Departure

After breakfast, you can depart at any time. Our local driver will pick you up and will transfer you to the airport to take your international departure flight.

How does it work for solo travelers?

Our trips are great for solo travelers as well!

For solo travelers or for your own private room the single supplement charge is $287.

Are flights included?

No – you’ll have to get your own flights for this trip. We are not including flights to give you more freedom on how you get to the trip in case you want to travel somewhere different before or after.

However, once domestic flight is included on this trip and once you’re on the trip all of your transportation will be taken care of.

Do I need Travel Insurance to go on the trip?

YES! It is always strongly recommended that you have travel insurance for any of our international trips. Sourced Adventures cannot be held liable for expenses outside of the trip itinerary and we want to make sure you are covered.

What documents do I need for my trip?

You’ll always need a valid passport for our international trips and we will let you know any other documents necessary including visas once you book your trip. We will help you get all the additional documents you need well before the trip leaves!

Where will we meet our tour guide?

Transfer from the airport is included, so you will meet the rest of the group and guide at the hotel.

Will we have the same tour guide for the full trip?

Yes, you will! Our guides are highly trained and the best in the region. By the end you will all be family.

What visas are required for Americans to travel to Peru?

No visa is required for anyone with American nationality. For other people, please reach out to us and we’ll let you know what you need.

When should my flights arrive by and depart by?

On day one, you should arrive in the morning or midday so you can do the included activities (the welcome briefing is at 2PM). For departure day you can leave anytime. Please note checkout is at 12 pm the final day.

Do guests get picked up at the airport?

We have an included individual arrival transfer which means that you will have your own transfer to take you to the hotel included.

What should I pack?

Sunscreen, hat, bug spray, warm weather clothes, bathing suit, sandals, toiletries, good walking/hiking shoes, sunglasses, etc.

Can allergies be accommodated?

We will need to know if you have any dietary requirements before the trip. We will make sure to communicate to our leaders and suppliers about any allergies or restrictions, but some things might be difficult to accommodate in certain areas. Please let us know ASAP once you book.

What are the main languages spoken in Peru?

The official language is Spanish, but all of our guides speak fluent English. You will find that in the sacred valley and other locales that Quechua and other indigenous languages are also spoken.

What about Wifi and Cell service?

In Lima, Cusco and other larger towns you’ll find that WiFi is pretty readily accessible. You may also buy a local sim card at the airport if you prefer more connectivity.

Trip is non-refundable outside of 24 hours after purchase. Deposits are non-refundable. If paying a deposit, final payment will be due in full either 65 days after booking or 65 before trip (whichever comes first). Travel Insurance is strongly recommended for this trip.
