Kayak & Wine on the Potomac from DC

Washington, DC

Join us for the perfect escape from the metropolitan megalopolis of Washington, DC!  Meet your bus and guide at Union Station for a departure at 9am. After a quick drive to the Potomac River, slip into your choice of single or tandem Kayaks and enjoy a 5 mile paddle that usually takes 2 to 2.5 hours to complete. After hitting the river, you’ll return to the campground and bus with your dry clothes (if you need them) and enjoy tasty picnic lunch. After a leisurely meal on the banks of the river, we’ll board the bus to head over to our favorite local winery and vineyard.

At the vineyard, you’ll enjoy a guided tasting of 9 wines and then have a chance to split a bottle with some friends and explore the vineyard before returning to the city.

How long is the trip?

The entire trip is about 10 hours.

What should I bring?
  • Clothes that you do not mind getting wet. i.e – bathing-suit, quick dry shorts/top, sports-bra, etc…
  • A pair of closed toed shoes. They will not let you on the river without them.
  • A dry change of clothes and shoes. This is a big one. We want you to be comfortable at the vineyard and to have a nice ride home, and a pair of dry clothes is the way to do it.
  • Waterproof camera / Go Pro. This is not necessary, but always a plus to capture the day with. We strongly vote against bringing your phones on the river with you, unless you have a waterproof case for it.
  • Food for the ride. Make sure you don’t end the ride on an empty stomach. Bring some snacks for the bus ride there and back!
  • Nalgene or water bottle. Always important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Especially in the summer, it can get quite hot on the river so bringing extra water is important!
  • Cash/Credit. We supply lunch for you, however if you want any equipment add ons or to purchase wine at the end of the day make sure you have some cash handy.
What should I take with me on the river?

Just yourself and a water bottle!

You can leave all of your belongings on the bus, as it will be locked throughout the day. If you want to bring your phone, please make sure it is in a protective waterproof case…there is a solid chance you’ll get wet.

Do you need to know how to swim to attend this trip?

Although it is not required, it is strongly suggested.

How long is the drive?

While it depends on traffic, the ride out to the river is usually 1.5-2 hours.

Can I bring my kids on the trip?

Unfortunately, no. This is an 21+ trip.

Can I drink on the river?

There is no drinking on the river or on the campground where we launch from and eat lunch. That said, you are free to drink at the Winery and/or bring a purchased bottle for the bus ride home.
