Discover the Wonderful Breweries Outside NYC
Journey to the Hudson Valley for a day of education and–most importantly–libation! A region whose land is as much a part of the experience as the bounty it produces, we’ll kick things off in Warwick, NY. Setting the stage for some artisanal brews & ciders that are at once both refreshingly rustic and charmingly sophisticated with a terroir highlighted by the region’s signature “Black Dirt”, we’ll visit two top tier farm-crafted establishments before rounding off the tour in Middletown, where creativity and delicious experimentation are in no short supply.
Three Jewels of the Valley
The Drowned Lands – In a time where you can get the same ol’ thang anywhere you roam, The Drowned Lands of Warwick, NY is an excellent example of beer as the standard bearer for regional culture. Their emphasis of the agrarian connection between land and barrel is showcased in their beautifully restored historic taproom & surrounding property.
Pennings Farm Cidery – Pennings has it all: beautiful orchards, a gastro-pub, a beer garden, wood fired pizzas and one hell of a selection of hard ciders to please the palate. Yes, we know it’s a brewery tour, but why not spice it up with a little something different? Find out the differences in the cider making vs. the beer brewing process? What kind of apples do they use and why? We’ll sip our way through a guided tour of their production facility as well as the orchard itself to learn the answer to those questions more!
Equilibrium Brewery – Living up to their name, the Brewers at EQ strike the balance between mad scientist and inspired artist that might be best summed up as purveyors of tasty, little pints of alchemy. While IPAs are their forerunning passion, they don’t shy away from the darkside of the barrel and offer a variety of funky farmhouse and sour styles as well. “Our beers are unfiltered and unpasteurized – meaning they are living, ‘breathing’, dynamic products that will evolve over time, generally transitioning from bold to graceful.”
What to Expect from the Day
